You probably have heard me talk about my nephews many times, especially if you followed me along through the transition from my old blog to this one. They have grown up being in the spotlight a little bit, but I often don’t talk about the difficulties we sometimes have with them. Jacob has problems sleeping. He rolls around, kicks, talks and just really sleeps very lightly and restlessly. His sleeping patterns make for a pretty ornery toddler during the day.
I found Sleeping Baby while I was dong a web search, and read about their Zipadee-Zip. It was created because there was a need to solve the swaddle transition problem- it’s not safe to swaddle your children to put them to sleep once they can roll over. This causes an issue when your little munchkin will only fall asleep when they are swaddled. That’s where the Zipadee-Zip comes in.
Sleeping Baby also offers several other products including trendy teethers, necklaces, outfits, sleep mats and the Flying Squirrel Pajamas for children up to a 5T. I was most interested in the Flying Squirrel Pajamas, since obviously the twins aren’t babies anymore, but they still have trouble staying asleep all night, and waking up rested in the morning.
Flying Squirrel Pajamas
The Flying Squirrel is made from our softest knit, cotton blend fabric. The breathable plush and gentle stretch of this pajama will keep your active toddler cozy and comfortable all night long, without the worry of kicking off loose blankets. When the night is over, flip open the convertible hand and foot covers to free those fingers and toes for morning playtime! Take note, these PJs are made to fit baggy and run big, making them perfect for toddlers that are inclined to sudden growth spurts.
The First Night
I wasn’t sure if pajamas would make a huge difference in how Jacob slept, but we were pretty much willing to try anything. He normally just sleeps in a pull-up and t-shirt, so getting him to put the actual pajamas on was a chore. After lots of bribing and crying we finally zipped him in. He decided after they were on that he liked them and didn’t want to take them off. He fell asleep right away which was pretty normal for him, but as I checked on him throughout the night to see how he was doing, I noticed he hadn’t really moved all over and switched positions sleeping 748 times like he normally does.
I went to sleep at 2 am, and the next morning I asked his mom if he had slept all night, and he actually had. Coincidence? Maybe.
The Second Night
The second night when it was pajama time, there was no fighting or bribing to get Jacob to put on his pajamas. He happily zipped up his own Flying Squirrel and laid down in bed. He again fell asleep right away, and again he slept all night without moving all over and doing acrobatics in his sleep. I know this isn’t a coincidence. The Flying Squirrel Pajamas helped him sleep more peacefully. I don’t really understand the science behind them, but I am convinced it is because of their shape and how baggy they are. Honestly, I’m just extremely happy that it works! Jacob is in a much better mood now that he has been getting some quality sleep!
